MZAW-Doktorandenseminar im SoSe 2021:

Elements of Rhetoric, Syntax, and Semantics of the Ancient Chinese Language in Comparative Perspective

Donnerstags, 18-20 Uhr via Zoom
Beginn: 15. April 2021

Thesaurus Linguae Sericae has been in the works for over 30 years. It is designed to encourage and allow cross-cultural cultural comparison. The Thesaurus includes a dictionary function which calls up a system of meanings for any single character one may mark in the texts. Similarly the Thesaurus includes syntactic and rhetorical functions will call up the explanations of all technical terms which one may mark anywhere in the database. Thus this seminar will be accessible for anyone with an interest in meticulous systematic textual analysis in the spirit of Wilhelm von Humboldt.
This Seminar will introduce students to grammar, syntax and rhetoric on the basis of a survey of the analytic system as presented in Thesaurus Linguae Sericae and a set of detailed analysis of texts selected/preferred by participants.
All students with an interest in the classical Chinese language are welcome.
